Background:

  • What is referred to as “NMRA Standard DCC” was laboriously developed by the National Model Railroading Association to standardize DCC among all the different manufacturers.
  • Prior to this, all the “digital control” manufacturers had their own incompatible systems, that “tied” you to just one manufacturer’s proprietary system.
  • With “NMRA Standard DCC”, all participating manufacturers’ systems that follow the NMRA standards (NCE, DIgitrax, Lenz, Zimo, and many others) can control about 20 different brands of decoders that follow the NMRA standards.  I.e. you are not “tied in” to one particular manufacturer.
